Foundations of Trust in Professional Partnerships

Whilst trust can be built between individuals, it is a much greater challenge between organisational partnerships, (particularly in public sector environments), where the need to be contractual, commercial or transactional, surpasses most other behaviours. Trust is not often measured in its strength, but more easily be measured on its outcomes.

Barriers to building 'corporate trust' between partners, stakeholders and suppliers are easily identified. Any trust built in professional, organisational or stakeholder relationships, will only be as good as the smallest 'brick in the wall', personal relationship developed. Unless the whole team drives to build trust in the partnership, it will never materialise and that extra 2%, 3% or 5% that is literally sitting there waiting to be grabbed, may never happen.

To build this cultural focus for the whole organisation, leaders must first demonstrate the right behaviours, then demonstrate and 'live' them. Without this visible leadership of style others will not follow and there will be no foundation on which to build a future trust based partnership.
